Aged care
The new Aged Care Act puts more on providers, and more on their boards. BW Advisory helps aged care providers make sure what sits behind the care holds up: how incidents are investigated, how personal information is handled, and the processes and technology staff rely on every day.
The Aged Care Act 2024 commenced on 1 November 2025. It is rights-based, with a Statement of Rights for older people, a reset of how providers are registered and regulated, and stronger accountability for boards and executives.
The strengthened Quality Standards took effect on the same date, as legal obligations for registered providers.
Under the Serious Incident Response Scheme, serious incidents are reported to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, the most serious within 24 hours. Providers also need an effective incident management system, used to prevent the next one.
Aged care providers handle health information, so the Privacy Act applies to private providers whatever their size.
Each incident looked into differently, by whoever is on shift, with notes that wouldn’t satisfy the Commission, a family or a tribunal.
Reports go in on time, but nothing links them or changes how care is delivered, so the same incidents come back.
Resident, family and staff information in clinical, rostering and finance systems, email and paper, with no clear picture of who can see what.
Monitoring, documentation and AI tools handle sensitive information in new ways. They need a privacy impact assessment before they go live.
Double entry, manual rostering and chasing paperwork use hours that should go to residents.
PROVED, BW Advisory’s six-stage investigation method, built into your team, so investigations are consistent, documented and defensible, and findings feed back into prevention.
Privacy impact assessments for new systems, and an evidence register: what’s needed, what you hold and what’s missing.
Where staff time really goes, systems that work together, admin automated, and vendor proposals tested before you sign.
A business case to get a change funded, then the project managed through to go-live, with specialists brought in where needed.
Each engagement is a defined result at one fixed price. Legal and clinical questions stay with your own advisers.
