What it means

Most organisations have never been asked what operational resilience means for them.

It is whether your operation keeps delivering when something goes wrong, or when something new arrives. It covers four things most organisations look at separately, if at all.

Your people, processes and systems
The teams, workflows and sites that deliver every day, and where they quietly depend on one person, one system or one workaround.
Technology and AI
Whether what you bring in fits how you work, does what was promised, and leaves you stronger rather than more exposed.
Personal information
What your systems collect, why, who can see it, and what the law and the people you serve expect.
Risks and expectations
To your people, assets and reputation, and from the regulators, boards, funders and community who will ask how you managed them.

The aim is better technology decisions, more from the systems you already have, efficiencies you can measure, and risks you can show are managed. BW Advisory brings them into one picture, finds the gaps between them, and plans for them before they become the problem.

You don't need to know what the problem is to start the conversation. Finding it is our job.

Law enforcement precision.Private sector scalability.

I built operational systems for large-scale law enforcement long before digital tools existed to support them. Major operational commands ran on processes and disciplines I wrote — not because technology enabled them, but because the thinking underneath was sound.

When a national health crisis required border management built from scratch, I designed and commanded it: more than a million travellers screened, no existing infrastructure, no tolerance for failure. The intelligence architecture that came next, inside a state-level command environment, existed so frontline operators could act on information while it still mattered. Along the way I led the implementation of major technology projects, from the business case through to rollout.

Then the private sector, leading law enforcement partnerships for a retail intelligence technology company — sitting between what police need and what a technology business can actually deliver, proved across every Australian state and territory.

That order matters. Operational practice came first, before the tools existed. Then a seat inside a technology business, watching which products got used and which got bought and shelved. It is why I review a vendor proposal the way I do — not on the demonstration, but on whether the proposal will hold in practice.

Today, through BW Advisory, I work with organisations of every size, from growing businesses to local government and national operators, on what keeps them running: how the operation works, the technology decisions behind it, and the privacy and governance that come with them.

The problems look different. The fundamentals are the same.

Where We Can Help

Operational resilience.

Four ways BW Advisory helps organisations of every size, public and private. Each ends in a written assessment you keep.

01

Operational review and support

You'd call us when

Something isn't working, and nobody can say exactly where.

What you get

  • Where your time and money really go
  • A costed plan to fix it, and the business case to get it approved
  • Automation specified, tendered and tested
  • The project delivered through to go-live

02

Technology and AI, made clear

You'd call us when

You know you should be doing something with technology and AI, but you don't know where to start.

What you get

  • A plain view of what's possible, and what fits you
  • Vendor claims tested, not taken on trust
  • Help to put it in, use it, and get more from it

Brad has sat inside a technology business. He knows what gets used, and what gets shelved. The decision stays yours.

Loss intelligence and investigation capability

You'd call us when

You're losing value and can't see where, or your investigations wouldn't survive scrutiny.

What you get

  • A loss intelligence framework your team runs
  • PROVED, a six-stage investigation method
  • Training, then a check that it's working

Or start with a five-minute Compass deep dive: or .

04

Privacy and regulatory evidence readiness

You'd call us when

New technology touches personal information, or someone is about to ask you to prove you manage a risk.

What you get

  • Privacy impact assessment support
  • An evidence register: what's needed, held and missing
  • Legal questions flagged for your counsel

How We Work

One lead adviser, start to finish.

Led by Brad, delivered by BW Advisory
You engage BW Advisory Solutions for a defined result at a fixed price. Brad leads the diagnosis, the relationship and the direction. What you receive is a written assessment you keep.
Builds: specified by us, contracted by you
Where something needs building, BW Advisory specifies it and runs the quotes, and the client contracts the developer directly. Any licensed work is always contracted by the client.

Scope of advice. I review operational requirements and vendor proposals. I do not specify, select, design, site, supply, install, configure or price any equipment — including cameras, alarms, locks, doors, sensors and access control systems. Where equipment is required, you choose and engage a licensed supplier or installer of your own choosing.

Commercial interests. I hold a commissioned referral arrangement with a technology provider. Before an engagement starts, I disclose in writing any commission arrangement or other interest relevant to the work.

Operational Proof

Applied work.

Details remain confidential. The problems solved and outcomes delivered are not.

Case 01

Capability Gap Diagnosis

Private sector

Situation

A client with a genuine, hard-to-replicate data advantage and no way to prove it to investors.

Gap

The capability was real. The operating model was undocumented, governance informal, and the evidence base absent.

Outcome

BW Advisory assessed capability across five dimensions — product, process and technology, relationships, scalability and commercial readiness — then staged a roadmap for what was missing.

Impact

Guesswork replaced with a costed, sequenced plan.

Case 02

Digital Operations at Scale

Government

Situation

A national border operation running on paper, at a volume paper could not carry.

Gap

No digital infrastructure, and a large workforce needing real-time coordination under political scrutiny.

Outcome

I designed and commanded the programme from nothing. Paper was eliminated entirely and the operation ran without incident.

Impact

More than a million people screened.

Case 03

Multi-Site Intelligence Partnerships

Private sector

Situation

A national multi-site group facing losses that moved across sites, regions and state lines faster than it could respond.

Gap

The response was reactive. Site, regional and national teams each held a different picture, and engagement with authorities was ad hoc.

Outcome

I designed and embedded an intelligence-led framework, with national pattern detection and structured partnerships at state and federal level.

Impact

Reaction replaced with detection.

Drawn from current private-sector work and from my public-sector career.

Why This Practice Exists

This discipline was never available at your size.

Now it is.

Everyone knows they should be doing something with technology and AI. Most don't know where to start. The options are complicated, the claims are confusing, and it is easy to end up paying for things you don't need. At the same time, what regulators, boards, funders and the community expect of how you run keeps rising.

Both problems have the same cause. Capability is being bought instead of built.

The organisations that get clear on this in the next twelve to eighteen months will hold a structural advantage. The rest will spend years unpicking decisions that were preventable.

Large enterprises solve this with a standing operations and intelligence function. Most organisations, from growing businesses to local councils, cannot carry one. That is the gap this practice exists to close.
